History: Among the many indignities Jackie Robinson had to endure during his groundbreaking first season were beanballs hurled at him by opposing pitchers. In the days before batting helmets, the Dodgers attempted to deal with this problem by sewing padding into Jackie’s hat. Following common practice at the time, the Dodgers used more than one cap manufacturer in 1947. This cap is a reproduction of the 8-panel version. An original game-worn 8-panel recently commanded over a half million dollars at auction.
