History: The Beaumont-Port Arthur area of Texas has long been one of the global centers of the oil industry. That heritage is reflected in the names of Beaumont’s baseball teams, which included "Oilers,” "Gushers," "Oil Gushers," "Roughnecks," and finally, "Exporters," who represented Beaumont in the Texas League from 1920-1955. Throughout the 1930s, the Exporters were an affiliate of the Detroit Tigers.
