History: A ballclub named the Tourists has represented Asheville, North Carolina, almost continuously from 1897 until today. In 1959, the Tourists were the class-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, playing in the South Atlantic League and were led by first baseman Nathan Dickerson, who finished the summer with a league-leading batting average of .362.
