League: Midwest League
History: The Peoria Chiefs were first founded as the Peoria Suns in 1983, but quickly changed to the Chiefs name the following year. The Chiefs played at Meinen Field – later renamed Vonachen Field in 1992 after team owner Pete Vonachen – in Peoria, Illinois until 2001 before moving to Dozer Field where they now play. The Chiefs have won four division titles and one league title, with that league title coming in their first season at Dozer Field in 2002. While many memorable players have appeared for the Peoria Chiefs, two individuals stand out. Hall of Famers Gregg Maddux and Ryne Sandberg both spent time in Peoria, with Maddux as a player and Sandberg as a manager.
