League: Eastern League
History: The Norwich Navigators got their start when the New York Yankees moved their double-A team, the Albany-Colonie Yankees, from Albany, New York to Norwich, Connecticut. The Navigators started playing in Norwich in 1995, with home games played at Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium. The team’s lone league title came in 2002, their final year as a Yankees affiliate, winning the Eastern League under the guidance of manager Luis Sojo. When the Yankees parted way with the team, the San Francisco Giants stepped in and took over as the parent club. In 2006 the team was renamed the Connecticut Defenders as part of an effort to increase interest in the team, and a few years later they were relocated to Richmond, Virginia where they became the Richmond Flying Squirrels.
