League: Collegiate Football

History: The 1949 College Football season yielded yet another undefeated season for the powerful Army Black Knights and legendary head coach Earl H. "Red" Blaik. The gridiron cadets outscored their opponents 354 to 68 that season. During Blaiks' tenure, Army compiled an impressive 121-32-10 record, including 3 National Championships and a 32 game winning streak between 1944 and 1947. The Army Black Knights currently play as an independent and are not part of any conference. They play their home games at Michie Stadium on the campus of the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York.

Please note: Within the wool yarns, there may be some slight color variations. This is an inherent trait of the authentic wool we use. This should not be considered a flaw, but like the original garment, merely part of its charm.

Great jersey with the iconic look of the powerhouse Army teams of Red Blaik. In 1949 All American quarterback Arnold “Pope” Galiffa wore number 16 for Army. The jersey was purchased to display in Galiffa’s hometown Donora (Pennsylvania) Historical Society. A few years ago we had Ebbets Field Flannels recreate the high school baseball jersey of another Donora native who achieved a bit of notoriety, Stan Musial (who wore #16 in high school). In the future we plan to have Ebbets Field Flannels make jersey’s for other notable Donora athletes: “Deacon” Dan Towler (led the NFL in rushing in 1952), Ken Griffey, Sr. (“Big Red Machine”), Ken Griffey, Jr. and Lee Sala (Middle Weight contender in the early1950’s). Not exactly sure how we’re going to do Sala, but we’ll think of something. We do wear the jersey’s from time to time because they look great and are fun to wear.
