History: Johnny Bench - perhaps the greatest catcher of all time - arrived in Buffalo as a 19-year old, the youngest player on the team. Although he batted only .259, Bench was named to the International League All-Star team in 1967, his last year in the minors. The Bisons played in War Memorial Stadium during this time, a facility that was suited more to football, and was in a state of serious decline. "The Rockpile" appeared as "Knights Field" in the 1984 film "The Natural".
