History: Vancouver started in the United Soccer Association as the Royal Canadians in 1967. The USA's model was to import entire foreign clubs to "represent" the North American pro teams. The Royal Canadians were Sunderland A.F.C. from the English League. In 1968 the USA merged with the rival NPSL and became the North American Soccer League, and Vancouver changed their name to Royals. Vancouver hosted matches at Empire Stadium.
