History: The Great Flood of March, 1913 remains Ohio’s worst weather disaster. In the tradition of the time, the nickname “Flood Sufferers” inevitably was applied to the Zanesville nine, which also “suffered” a last-place finish in the Inter-State League in their only season. Notable Zanesville players included pitcher Sad Sam Jones (so-called because of his habit of pulling his cap low across his brow, giving him a downcast look), and Dizzy Nutter. Yep, Dizzy Nutter of the Flood Sufferers. You can’t make this stuff up, folks.
