History: A 31-year-old Cuban infielder named Minnie Mendoza, led the ‘65 Hornets in batting average with a mark of .275. Five years later, Mendoza would hit a meager .188 over 16 games with the Minnesota Twins. Years later, the term "Mendoza Line" would come to commonly refer to players with a batting average below .200. While most attribute the term to a later player named Mario Mendoza, a smaller minority believe the term actually originated from Minnie's stint with the Twins.
