Mohawk Giants 1913 Home Jersey
$215.00
History: The Mohawk Giants were based in Schenectady, New York, and were one of Negro league baseball's early great independent teams. In 1913 the Mohawks defeated an all-star team led by the Washington Senators legendary pitcher Walter Johnson. But the game nearly didn't happen, as the Mohawk players ran off the field before the game began to protest the fact that they had not been paid. for six weeks. The police were called, but order was only restored when a local restaurant owner managed to come up with a good deal of the money the players were owed. They went on to surprise Johnson's team 1-0, one of several times before 1947 that major leaguers competed with Negro league players.
