History: The Louisiana State Tigers football teams have won 3 National Championships in their history dating back to 1893. Perhaps the most beloved LSU player ever, running back Billy Cannon, led them to their first title in 1958 (He would go onto win the Heisman trophy the following year - the only LSU player to date to do so). The popular defensive platooning system used by Coach Paul Dietzel also played a huge part in that first National Championship season with the second string defense dubbed "The Chinese Bandits" earning legendary status in LSU football lore for their contributions. The LSU Tigers are currently members of the South Eastern Conference (SEC) and play their home games in Tiger Stadium, better known as Death Valley, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Geaux Tigers!
