League: International Soccer League
History: The International Soccer League was the brainchild of former Philadelphia Phillies owner William Cox, who was convinced of the potential for pro soccer in the United States. Rather than try to establish top-tier professional clubs, the ISL imported teams from Europe and South America. The New York Americans (also known as the New Yorkers) were the sole domestic entry in the league. The New York club had the best league record in 1965, but lost the championship to Polonia Bytom of Poland. Cox went on to become one of the founders of the National Professional Soccer League in 1967, the forerunner of the NASL.
We recommend washing in a gentle cycle and laying flat to dry in order to preserve the felt work.
