History: The Grays were founded in 1912 by Cumberland Posey, who was, among other things, a riverboat captain, and one of the best basketball players in the United States. The Grays initially played in Homestead, a Pittsburgh suburb, but their success meant that by the 1920s they were playing many home games at Forbes Field, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates. This cap is unusual in (other than it being an 8-panel) it had a “P”, rather than a “G” or “H”, as was usually the case.
