League: AAGPBL

History: Philip K. Wrigley, owner of the Chicago Cubs and Wrigley Chewing Gum fame created the All-American Girls' Professional Ball League as substitute entertainment for men's professional baseball during the war years, growing from four original teams in 1943 to a maximum of ten teams in it’s 1948 heyday. The four original teams formed because their towns were war production centers, with some of the players working at war production facilities in the off season. These teams were the Racine Belles and Kenosha Comets in Wisconsin, Rockford Peaches in Illinois and the South Bend Blue Sox in Indiana. The distinctive uniforms worn by the AAGPBL players were based on tennis, field hockey and ice skating outfits designed specifically to convey the image of womanliness. The players were charm schooled, chaperoned and trained to play like men. Femininity and skilled baseball ability was the core of the AAGPBL. Strict rules of conduct such as how they dressed and cut their hair, what they ate and drank, where they lived and where they drove, all of it applied both on an off the field. Players were not allowed to work other jobs during the playing season; these women were full time professional ball players. The league lasted until 1954.The demise of the AAGPBL was due to a complex mix of administrative changes, social changes, evolving recreational trends and the advent of television. Teams of the AAGPBL were: Rockford Peaches, South Bend Blue Sox, Kenosha Comets, Racine Belles, Milwaukee Chicks, Minneapolis Millerettes, Fort Wayne Daisies, Grand Rapids Chicks, Peoria Redwings, Muskegon Lassies, Chicago Colleens, Springfield Sallies, Kalamazoo Lassies, Battle Creek Belles, Muskegon Belles.

Quality and Unique

This hat has so many little details and high quality elements. I'm very happy with my purchase. I love the green material under the brim.
