History: The Baylor Bears appeared in 3 separate Bowl games in the 1950's - the Orange in 1951 (L), the Gator in 1954 (L), and their only victory on New Years Day in the 1957 Sugar Bowl capping off a 9-2 1956 campaign. The MVP of that game was running back Del Shofner who averaged 6.4 yards per carry during the regular season and was chosen in the first round of the 1957 NFL draft by the Los Angeles Rams. Defner went on to a very successful 11 year pro career as a wide receiver for the Rams & the New York Giants. He was a 5x First team All-Pro and member of the NFL 1960's All-Decade Team. The Baylor Bears are currently members of the Big 12 Conference and play their home games in McLane Stadium, Waco, Texas.
