History: With tensions between the United States and Fidel Castro’s Cuban government mounting, International League president Frank Shaughnessy ordered the immediate transfer of the Havana Sugar Kings to Jersey City. The team’s new home would be Roosevelt Stadium, where Jackie Robinson had previously broken organized baseball’s “color barrier” in 1946. Without time to order new uniforms, an awkward patch with “Jersey City” sewn onto it was placed over the “Sugar Kings” lettering. We’ve cleaned it up here.
