History: The 1950s were a time of change at East Carolina. In 1951 the school, previously East Carolina Teachers College, was upgraded to a four-year liberal arts college, renamed East Carolina College, and shifted from a predominantly female student body. With more men in attendance men's athletics grew. This included the baseball program which was coached by Jack Boone, who did double duty as both baseball and football coach. In 1952 the Pirates went 12-8 and finished second in the North State Conference. Today the Pirates play their home games at Clark-LeClair Stadium on the school's campus in Greenville, NC as members of the American Athletic Conference.
