League: Collegiate
History: The athletic legacy of the USF Dons dates back as far as the school’s founding in 1855, with intercollegiate sports beginning in 1907. After the school became the University of San Francisco in 1930 they adopted the colors green and gold and the Don as their mascot.
The single most successful season of any athletic program at the school came in 1951 when the football team went undefeated with a record of 9-0. 9 players from that team went on to play in the NFL, with 5 of them becoming Pro-Bowlers and 3 of them eventually being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Linebacker Burl Toler would eventually become the first Black official in the NFL, and the first Black man to officiate a Super Bowl.
