INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE

HISTORY

As the top Yankee affiliate in the ‘30s and ‘40s the Bears fielded some of the best teams in Minor League history. A short list of Newark greats would include Yogi Berra Joe Gordon Charlie Keller and Tommy Holmes. The Bears played in cozy Ruppert Stadium. In 1927 they posted an impressive record of 90 wins but still finished 21 1/2 games behind the pennant-winning Buffalo squad. Al Manaux anchored the 1927 Bears' pitching staff with 25 wins and an ERA of 2.61.
Played in the CFL in 1965. Their home field was Schools Stadium.
