Chicago American Gears Vintage Cut-Off Sweatshirt
National Basketball League
History: The Gears were members of the National Basketball League, one of two pro leagues which eventually merged to form the NBA. Their star player was 6' 10" George Mikan, who had excelled at DePaul University. After winning the NBL championship, Gears owner Maurice White pulled the team out of the NBL and started his own league, the Professional Basketball League of America. When that venture folded, the Gears' players were distributed among the other NBL teams, which is how Mikan found himself with the Minneapolis Lakers.
