Greenville Spinners History

Shoeless Joe Jackson was one of the "Eight Men Out" banned from baseball forever by Commissioner Keenesaw Mountain Landis for allegedly throwing the 1919 World Series. This despite being acquited by a jury and Jackson's superlative performance in the Series. He continued to play semi-pro ball in South Carolina for decades, often under an assumed name. The "S" stands for Spinners, but it might as well be for Shoeless Jos.
