Fort Worth Cats History

The Cats were originally know as the Panthers, since Ft. Worth's nickname was "The Panther City".The team built a dynasty in the 1920s, winning seven straight pennants and five Dixie Series titles. Later, in the 1940s, after a terrible 1940 season, in which they lost 108 games and finished 52 1/2 games behind the pennant winners, the Cats again bult a dynasty, finishing first in 1946, 1948 and 1949. The 1948 team was managed by Bobby Bragan and featured pitcher Carl Erskine.
