In the middle of the McCarthy era in the 1950s, there was a team named the "Commies". In fact, it was just an affectionate nickname for the team, which was formally known as the "Commodores". The 1928 Commies were led by 20-game winner Chester Howard and by Floyd Patterson, who had 181 hits. They won the regular season pennant by eight games over Terre Haute, and then defeated the same team to win the League playoffs.
